On-Set Data Capture
Why would I want to capture directly to an X-1 Data Capture station?
If you choose to capture directly to Hard-drive from an HD camera using our X-1 Data Capture Station, then you are essentially turning the Camera and X-1 Data station into a very light and mobile "Telecine" system. Images can be captured un-compressed in the 10 bit Log Colour space from 2K (2048 x 1080 @24Pf/PsF) resolution to SD (720x576). Why don't I just use the tape mechanism supplied with the camera? All tape formats feature compression. This compression of the image adds digital artifacts which diminish the quality of the image. While this may not be visible to the eye, it becomes more prevalent when attempting to perform a Chroma-key or similar effect on an image. Even the Sony SR deck that is able to capture the full RGB colour space still uses compression to write this data to the tape. Even when setting it to the very highest quality it still uses 2:1 Compression. The X-1 Data station has the added advantage of being able to access the captured data in a non-linear environment while correcting Logrithmic Camera Data for correct viewing in a linear display device. What nature of production would benefit from using the X-1 Data Station? Any production that intends to print to film or involves Blue/Green Screen work. Not only does this capture station support film colour space and resolution but it also provides the fastest and simplest method of sharing full resolution Camera files without having to hire-in expensive Telecine system or HD deck just to access the High resolution images.
This means the digital master files will be the equivalent of an OCN (Original Camera Negative). Read more about the D.I. ToolBOX X-1 Capture/Playback Station top |
